We’ve been desperately fighting Spam lately and wanted to share that information with the blogging community. The spam was mostly in the form of comment spam, content scraping and content modification.
Akismet has done a wonderful job for years, but spammers more and more understand on how to circumvent the “standard” plugin.

We’ve installed Defensio.com and simple captcha on some blogs and also had good results with Spam Karma.

But this wasn’t enough:

We wanted to protect content and reputation (content modification), so we installed Copyscape for international bloggers and Reputationobserver.com in the US and the counter part Reputationsverteidiger.de in Europe.

Lastly we made sure that our blogs always update to the latest version. It’s crucial to keep the network going.

That all seemed to combat most of the spam.  Hope we could help a bit
